LAS VEGAS – Rick Camp has been a successful Front of House and Recording Engineer in the music industry for over 30 years, touring with acts including Beyoncè, Dr. Dre and J-Lo. Camp now runs Master Mix Live in Las Vegas, Nevada – a 5-month program dedicated to teaching the audio trade.
More details from K-array (www.k-array.com):
Master Mix Live offers students a unique, semi-private engineering education to develop and strengthen the necessary skills needed to master today’s audio gear. Camp’s program was uniquely modeled to teach, train, and prepare up and coming audio professionals for a practical knowledge and understanding of today’s cutting-edge audio gear.
Camp was using Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 in his studio with K-array Kayman-KY102 speakers before switching to Dolby Atmos 9.1.4. when he came to the realization that he wanted to feature only top of the line audio solutions to compliment his software upgrade.
In order to maintain a professional and sleek aesthetic, Camp found a natural match in K-array. “I am totally impressed with the accuracy of the K-array Kaymans,” said Camp. “That’s why I continued to go in that direction – I started using them two years ago when I first went to 7.1.4., and now that I’ve switched, I’m staying in this direction.”
Now, he has an additional grouping of KY102s for left-wide and right-wide surrounds, KY52s mounted on the ceiling, paired with KMT21 subs and KA84 8000W 2U rack amplifiers creating an immersive sound environment. The expanded sound system allows Mix Master Live students to experience an enhanced version of his lessons.
Rick is committed to teaching young engineers the skills that he struggled to learn through years of trial and error because there were no audio schools, “The upgrade will expand their use of the Dolby Atmos platform easier.”
His upgrade is a response to the surplus of consumer interest in Dolby Atmos Music due to its degree of universal useability. Through using 9.1.4, Camp recognized the seamless compatibility with K-array products. “I am direct out of Pro Tools via MADI to the console which leads to individual audio channels that pan to Dolby Atmos master rendering on a separate computer, “ added Camp. “When changing to 9.1.4, I was able to change the brand of my height speakers to only include K-array products and I added their subs.”
