LAS VEGAS – With its 2022 exhibition at the expanded Las Vegas Convention Center drawing fewer than half of the attendees of its pre-pandemic peak, the 2022 NAB Show has still not fully recovered from Covid-19. But it was heartening for a local visitor who last visited a stripped-bare Hall C at LVCC to receive the Pfizer vaccine to see the convention center once again being used for the hustle and bustle of an actual in-person trade show.

LVCC’s Hall C got busy in spots

The National Association of Broadcasters was expecting close to 50,000 visitors for their show running from April 23-27 at the Las Vegas Convention Center this year – encouraging numbers after two dark years, but still falling far short of the six-figure attendance stats in 2016 and 2017, and the 90,000 said to have attended in 2019. The exhibitor count was projected at 940, also falling short of the 1,600 exhibitors in 2019.

Blackmagic Design anchored the North Hall with a sprawling booth display

But if Hall C and the North Hall weren’t exactly bursting at the seams – with pipe and drape only partly concealing a considerably amount of vacant hall space from view – the NAB show did include some activities in LVCC’s vast West Hall, the convention center’s heady 1.4-million square foot expansion of floor space that comes complete with free return trip in a Tesla through a tunnel for those worn out by the long carpeted walk west.

As the show floor activities were starting to wind down at NAB in Las Vegas, the Prolight + Sound exhibition was getting underway in Frankfurt, Germany, with an in-person exhibition set to run from from Tuesday, April 26 through Friday, April 29 that will include large P.A. systems set up at an open-air Live Sound Arena.

The NAB show was both in-person and virtual with lots of XR demos
