NEW YORK – The Governors Ball music festival on Randall’s Island and Hot 97 Summer Jam at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey were both affected by severe weather that moved into the area on June 2. Attendees at Hot 97 were able to return to their seats after a delay, but the Governors Ball event was cut short with an ordered evacuation.

Governor’s Ball, still named for Governor’s Island, where it was first held in 2011, has also grown from a one-day to three-day event since moving to Randall’s Island in 2012. Organizers first announced a weather delay from 12:30 to 6:30, when some of the acts on the Sunday lineup were able to perform, but the evacuation was ordered before top acts The Strokes and SZA were able to take the stage.

An announcement posted on governorsballmusicfestival.com read, “After close consultation with NYC officials and law enforcement, it was deemed necessary to evacuate the site and cancel the Sunday evening of Gov Ball 2019 for the safety of our festival goers, artists, and crew.”

The organizers noted refunds would be issued to those purchasing tickets for the day affected, and partial refunds would be available for three-day pass purchasers.
