THURINGIA, GERMANY -The Wolfszeit Festival, going on 10 years, has used PA systems made by ProAudio Technology for five years now. Currently, the main PA uses the new VT20 to satisfy audio for the fans of the open air metal festival.
More details from ProAudio Technology (www.proaudio-technology.de):
The Wolfszeit Festival in Thuringia is a hip event with dark metal fans. The 10 years of Wolfszeit have since 2012 used PA systems made by ProAudio Technology. In 2012, the only PA used for the entire festival were the HT16, SW18 and MT12 systems. Three years later the main PA was realized using the new VT20 and, owing to the positive experience, booked again for 2016.
Midsummer with over 35 degrees C, direct sunlight and three days with 33 hours full of very tight and fat dark metal program were the ultra-tough conditions which the products could easily withstand.
The technical facts:
Main PA: 2 x 8 VT20 tops, cardioid subarray with 6 x VS28 and 12 x VS18 subwoofers;
Nearfield: 2 x HT16 tops;
Sidefill: 2 x HT16s and 4 x SW18 subwoofers;
Drumfill: 2 x MT12s and 2 x SW18s;
Monitoring: 8 x MT12s;
Amping: 6 x 20.4-DSP and 1 x 14.4-DSP system amplifier;
Power supply: 7 x 230 V / 16 A Schuko.
The acoustic measurements on the site have confirmed the simulation and the meticulously tuned VT20 with its physically perfect line source behavior. Even larger setups require only very little equalization. In the low-mid range the level was cut by a moderate 4 dB with only one filter. HF boosts and equalizations in a sometimes double-digit dB range, as they are common practice in this business, are definitely unknown for the VT20.
Says Tim Werner, GF Preact AG and sound engineer (Prodigy, Soulfly and Wolfszeit Festival since 2008): “For heavy metal a PA must not only deliver extreme sound levels, but also an incredible complexity so that the result is clear with kick-ass punch. Thanks to the VT20 the Wolfszeit Festival is a real feast for the ears – even for non-metal fans – and has become one of the best sounding black and death metal festivals in the whole German scene. Thank you, guys, for making such great loudspeakers and thank you also for your perfect on-site support!“
