STOCKHOLM, Sweden — At Stockholm’s Gröna Lund island theme park, a new restaurant, dubbed Mamma Mia! The Party, is serving up Greek food and ABBA hits overseen by former band member Björn Ulvaeus and his team. Outboard’s TiMax SoundHub, specified by sound designer Oskar Johansson, plays a key role in the listening experience. The gear was sourced via distributor Brollan Soderstorm of Electrosound and integrator Mediatech.
More details from Outboard (www.outboard.co.uk):
The Tyrol restaurant in Stockholm’s Gröna Lund island theme park has transformed into a Greek taverna in homage to the popular movie, Mamma Mia!, showcasing hits from the Swedish band ABBA. The project has purchased a TiMax SoundHub—S32 processor to create surround audio effects spatialization and mic localization throughout the buzzing Abba Musical-esque production. Traditional Greek foods are served during a three-act dining experience while cast members perform ABBA’s greatest hits.
The opening night brought about the rarest of occasions, as all four members of ABBA were briefly reunited, appearing publicly together for the press and the launch.
The restaurant’s immersive sound design was created by Sweden’s Oskar Johansson, who specified the TiMax SoundHub which was supplied by distributor Brollan Soderstorm of Electrosound via integrator Mediatech. A principal task for TiMax is the spatialisation of layered surround effects such as the sea, crickets and other sounds to bring alive the Grecian backdrop of the popular Abba movie, Mamma Mia!.
Also vital to the show’s success, TiMax provides variable localisation of vocal and instrument mics as the artists moved to different performance stages around the dining audience, by applying different delay-matrix Image Definitions so that the performers’ mics are delayed differently to the multi-channel distributed speakers system.
The multiple Shure radio-mic, instrument and playback feeds from this high octane performance run via a Yamaha CL5 and CL1 to the TiMax SoundHub-S32 audio showcontrol processor with 32 Dante inputs and outputs feeding a PA system comprised of 90+ L-Acoustic (Kiva, Kara, 12XT, 8XT, 5XT, SB28 and SB18) speakers distributed around the Greek tavern space.
Oscar Johansson commented about the final outcome, “People seems to love the show and I´m happy with the result and the way it worked out!”
