NORMAN, OK — Event and venue professionals thrive in an environment that requires both careful preparation and the ability to adapt to new information. But recent history shows that severe weather can disrupt even the best-laid plans, with potentially catastrophic results. Continuing with its mission to provide the event industry with relevant & practical learning opportunities, Event Safety Alliance is excited to announce the return of the Severe Weather Summit in Norman, OK March 8-9, 2016.

The Severe Weather Summit is designed to aid event, sports, and venue professionals in preparing for and responding to dangerous weather conditions. Over the course of two days at the National Weather Center in Norman, OK, subject matter experts from NOAA and the National Weather Service will introduce participants to short-fused severe weather incidents that can threaten all types of events and venues, as well as the steps to develop a severe weather preparedness plan. Delivered from the perspective of event and venue professionals, topics of discussion will include:

 

  • Common severe weather threats and mitigation strategies;
  • Weather forecasting and monitoring resources;
  • Key elements of a Severe Weather Emergency Plan;
  • Chain of command and organizational issues;
  • Crowd dynamics and legal considerations;
  • Creating trigger charts;
  • Post-incident analysis and documentation.
  • Understanding severe weather is a science all to itself.

 

 

The Severe Weather Summit will provide attendees with the knowledge necessary to identify and prepare for potential threats, and how to use existing technology and expertise in order to safely handle a severe weather event.
