OSLO — Atea provided K-array gear for a 16th-floor restaurant in one of the new high-rise buildings that are collectively known as the Barcode project in Oslo’s Bjørvika neighborhood. The restaurant setup at the DNB building includes KMT21, KMT12, KP102 and KP52 components, all painted in a custom RAL color to match the restaurant’s interior.

With a stunning panoramic view of the Oslo fjord and the new Opera house, Norway’s largest bank, DNB has set the bar high with its recent installation in Oslo’s new skyline, Barcode, in Bjørvika. The restaurant on 16th floor at the top demanded special attention to detail when considering integrating their top-of-the line, multi-zone and VIP area sound system. This was the challenge for integrator Atea who put forward the slim and compact K-Array speakers to fit elegantly into this modern design.
“The key was the custom painting and obvious slim design but what surprised them the most is not how they looked but how great they sounded,” said Freddy Johansen, project manager, Atea.
The Proposal
The challenge with this particular project was the need to uniform the sound within a rather tall space and the speakers had to blend into the design of the restaurant. Project manager Freddy Johansen had little to do to convince the client that the slim array technology speakers would be a perfect fit. “The key was the custom painting and obvious slim design but what surprised them the most is not how they looked but how great they sounded.”
“We are really happy with how this turned out. K-array and First Audio has exceeded our expectations when it comes to performance and integration. We have achieved a fantastic soundscape with minimal visual impact,” Johansen added.
With multiple KMT21, KMT12, KP102 and KP52 all painted in a custom RAL color to match the restaurants interior they have achieved a stunning result, almost impossible to compare with speakers of this size and flexibility.
The restaurant is capable of providing low-key background music during the day while all the same being ready to welcome full live band productions at night. This is all possible without compromising the architects vision of the restaurant. “We are really happy with how this turned out. K-array and First Audio has exceeded our expectations when it comes to performance and integration. We have achieved a fantastic soundscape with minimal visual impact,” Johansen concluded.
