AUSTIN, TX — The Independent Film Channel (IFC) returned to SXSW 2013 with its fourth annual festival-sanctioned IFC Crossroads House. Vice Bar hosted both IFC’s Interactive Week and the Music Week. Over the course of seven days, the IFC Crossroads House served up music and comedy events featuring Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera and Fall Out Boy, among others. StageTech relied upon two Allen & Heath iLive T-112s and iDR-48s for mixing audio levels at FOH and monitors.
More details from Allen & Heath (www.allen-heath.com):
IFC is owned by AMC Networks and debuted in September 1994. In March 2010, IFC broadened its programming from merely airing independent films to also including cult television series, comedy shows and specials with an indie flavor and sensibility. The network’s newly adopted slogan: Always On. Slightly Off, did not disappoint during SXSW.
Some of the featured guests during IFC Interactive Week included comediennes Sarah Silverman and Reggie Watts (Comedy Bang! Bang!); actor Michael Cera (Arrested Development); and former Minnesota governor and wrestling legend, Jesse Ventura. During the music showcase, sponsored by Brita filters, The Divine Fits and veteran pop punk band Fall Out Boy put the iLIVES to the test.
The production was overseen by local live event production company StageTech. Two Allen & Heath iLIVE T-112s and iDR-48s were used at front-of-house (FOH) and monitors, connected with Allen & Heath’s exclusive ACE audio interface/split system providing a 64-channel, full digital split on Cat 5 cables.
“It was the second year using this same configuration with the iLIVES and they performed flawlessly,” said Bill Mester, president of StageTech. “The versatility of the iLIVES allowed sound engineers to seamlessly transition from comedy skits and stand up to full out punk rock bands. At times we would have eight to ten wireless mics on stage and it was great having individual EQ capabilities and processing control on each one.”
