What is the Plugin Alliance?
Plugin Alliance LLC is a new American pro-audio plugin-company, founded by Brainworx CEO Dirk Ulrich. “Our goal is to establish a new, user friendly native plugin “Über-Standard,” supporting all major plugin formats and uniting some of the best-known international audio companies under one virtual home.”
Joining the Alliance with an account will be free for users.
The Plugin Alliance website will be a one-stop target to go to from Jan. 2, 2012, letting users take advantage of downloads, tech support, sales, news, etc. for all the plugins of the Alliance companies from one site. The company will also offer multi-brand bundles for specific needs, for example Mastering Bundles, Mix Bundles, Heavy Metal Bundles, etc. with mixed plugins.
The idea is for users to be able to access all their native and TDM plugins with one account and one login.
Charter members of the Plugin Alliance include Brainworx, SPL, Elysia, Vertigo, Millennia, Charter Oak, Mäag Audio, Neve Custom Series 75, and Chandler Limited, with others expected to be announced soon.
All existing iLok licenses will be honored by the new Alliance, and there will be affordable or even free upgrades to 64-bit and the new native AAX for all users. The company will be emailing licensees who have purchased products from Brainworx, SPL, Vertigo or elysia to notify them that a free account is waiting for them.
The new Alliance license system uses one single license file for each user’s Alliance plugins on their computer. It can be activated online and offline, and users can access it from up to three machines at the same time.
Users who would rather not become a member of the Alliance can go on using the iLok based installers they originally bought. Plugin Alliance will continue to have them online as well.
The company also noted that many upgrades are free, and those who own a bx_ALL 2012 or an SPL ALL 2012 full license can get a free upgrade for all of their plugins. All individual plugins bought on or after May 1, 2011 get upgrades for those plugins as well.
Modest upgrade fees apply for all plugins bought before May 1, 2011; prices follow: The cost for upgrading one or two individual plugins: $20; the cost for upgrading all older Alliance plugins: $50 per account. Users get 64-bit versions and the native AAX format with these upgrades.
