TEMECULA, CA – QSC WideLine Series line arrays have been used at the Pechanga Amphitheater here and other venues across the U.S. for performances by a wide range of artists this summer. At the Pechanga Amphitheater, a 4,500-seat outdoor venue that has hosted performances by Matchbox Twenty, Lady Antebellum, Alan Jackson and Daughtry, among others, the system consists of WideLine-10s.
"The WideLine system has become the widely accepted choice by many of the national acts performing here," said Austin Hill, senior audio engineer at Star Way. "The system and its components are extremely versatile and handle our shows of every size – from six boxes to 60 – and we get consistent, clean, clear sound every time."
Star Way also used the WideLine Series for the annual Temecula Balloon and Wine Festival, with two stages, using 20 WL2102 boxes per side, 10 WL2102 boxes for center, eight WL218-sw subwoofers flown per side, plus 10 WL218-sw subwoofers per side ground-stacked. Six K Series loudspeakers were used for front-fill.
Costa Mesa, CA's Pacific Amphitheater has used WideLine Series loudspeakers for shows by Bob Dylan, Chris Isaak, Steve Miller Band, Melissa Etheridge, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber. Sound Image handled the concerts at the venue this summer.
"The WideLine is by far one of the best sounding boxes out there," said Gary Sanguinet, audio engineer at Sound Image. "It packs a wallop and doesn't weigh very much. This is an extremely wide venue and the WideLine is perfect as the center array, because they are low profile and small and have 140-degree dispersion, so they cover the width that we need as well as the distance."
The East Coast saw WideLine-10s supplied by Clear Sound in use at Philadelphia's Mann Performing Arts Center, part of a four-year run. "We actually got the contract as the result of a shootout where we put our WideLines against a competitor, and the folks at the Mann Center chose the WideLines," said Chris Dietze, president and owner of Clear Sound. "Sound quality and the size were the big factors.
"The house at Mann has front suspension points, which are limited to 1,000 lbs each," Dietze continued. "The WideLine system is the only one that can reach all the seats with good coverage and still meet the weight limit – and they sound great."
Clear Sound also uses WideLine-10s for the summer concert series at the Dell Music Center, Mann's sister amphitheater. A 5,500-seat uncovered amphitheater, the Dell has seen performances by Nancy Wilson, George Clinton, P Funk, Stephanie Mills and the Stylistics this summer.
"At the Dell, we always have artists who arrive and expect to see a large PA, and they are looking all around for it," said Dietze. "Then they are always astonished when they hear the sound that comes out of them."
