Performers Turning to Sensaphonics 3D Active Ambient IEM System

NASHVILLE, TN – Sensaphonics announced that the roster of artists adopting its 3D Active Ambient IEM System is growing, including some, like eclectic rock guitarist/composer Adrian Belew, pictured here with Sensaphonics president Dr. Michael Santucci, who ordered 3D systems right on the floor of Summer NAMM.
Sensaphonics touts the patent-pending 3D as "the only in-ear monitoring system incorporating binaural ambient microphones within custom-fit, soft-gel silicone earphones," and noted that recent purchasers include performers of musical styles ranging from hip-hop and rock to country and folk.

Other recent purchasers include rap/hip-hop superstars Kanye West and Jay-Z, singer-songwriters Ray LaMontagne and Colbie Caillat, and actor-musician Jeff Bridges. Other notable vocalists now monitoring with the Sensaphonics 3D include all four singers in Under The Streetlamp, a touring rock'n'roll/doo-wop group; and four performers at The Red Piano, the dueling piano bar in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Sensaphonics asserts that its 3D Active Ambient IEM System is especially beneficial for instrumentalists like the performers at The Red Piano, since its embedded microphone system allows instruments and amplifiers to be heard acoustically while wearing earphones. Drummer Jim Keltner uses his 3D both on stage and in the studio, while another recent purchaser, guitarist Justin Young, uses his in Colbie Caillat's touring band.

Because the 3D's ambient microphones are located at the ear, ambient stage sound is heard from the performer's point of view, enhancing three-dimensional localization. The ambient stage sound is sent to a compact bodypack mixer, where the artist can add as much or as little ambient sound to the mix as desired. In Full Ambient mode, the artist hears the ambience at natural volume (unity gain), which allows audience interaction and conversations between songs with the 3D earphones in place.

"We've seen a definite trend toward the 3D for the 2011 touring season," said Sensaphonics president Dr. Michael Santucci. "Obviously, we're thrilled to see more artists of this caliber making the move to active ambient in-ears. When you add in other 3D customers like Steven Tyler, Dave Matthews and Leon Russell, it's clear that the word is getting around."
