K-array Boosts Sanremo Music Festival Broadcasts

SANREMO, ITALY - This year, radio broadcasters and TV stations alike entrusted K-array for several intimate setups of live performances that were broadcast during the Sanremo Music Festival in the small coastal town of Sanremo. The event is a week-long singing competition that is broadcast throughout Italy. Audio challenges included outfitting arched ceilings and narrow audience areas in the historic buildings.

Crowd Crush at Outdoor Rock Concert in Argentina Kills Two, Injures Dozens

OLAVARRÍA, Argentina — A crowd surge pressing concertgoers against barricades in Olavarría, Argentina on March 11 left two dead and dozens injured. The outdoor rock concert featuring Indio Solari drew at least 300,000 to 350,000, about double the site’s 155,000 capacity and far more than the maximum 170,000 expected. The population of Olavarría, a town about 220 miles from Buenos Aires, is normally about 111,000. The town’s mayor, Ezequiel Galli, cited 350,000 in a news conference. Other reports cited much higher figures, but those numbers were not confirmed by an official tally.

L-Acoustics Lands in the Canary Islands

CANARY ISLANDS - Sonopluss Canarias took delivery of an L-Acoustics K2 system, the first in the Canary Islands. Sonopluss bought the new system to service the expanding EDM scene in the islands. Since its purchase last summer, it's been deployed for concerts with Ricky Martin, Manolo García and Arona Summers, along with festivals and other events.

The Brit Awards, Staged at London's O2, Gets Support from Britannia Row

LONDON — Britannia Row provided the live audio production for the recent Brit Awards, held at the O2. The event counted on Britannia Row's gear from DiGiCo, Sennheiser, Shure, L-Acoustics and other top audio brands. The show included Chris Martin's live tribute "duet" with George Michael in video representation. Sound engineer Garry Bradshaw, longtime audio engineer for George Michael, attended the event and was impressed with the overall audio quality of the show.

FRANKFURT, Germany — L-Acoustics has announced its product presentations at the upcoming Prolight +Sound 2017. L-Acoustics plans to preview its new P1 Audio Processor (pictured here). The company will also present its Syva segment source and demo its L-ISA immersive sound solutions. The booth, #C11 in Hall 3.1, will also feature a series of daily presentations of the latest L-Acoustics technologies from April 4-7. Built in 1909 but suffering severe damage during World War II and then extensive devastation by fire in the mid-1990s, the venue has nonetheless continued to be a mainstay of the country's artistic community. Now Renkus-Heinz is helping it to move into a new era courtesy of an ST Series loudspeaker system.
