Illness Forces Elton John to Cancel Shows in NV, CA

LAS VEGAS — Elton John is recuperating in the U.K. after a bout with an unspecified illness that required a temporary hospital stay following his shows in South America, according to reports. A string of seven Million Dollar Piano shows slated for Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from April 25-May 4, plus a May 6 concert in Bakersfield, CA, were canceled.

BALTIMORE - Live music bar chain, Howl at the Moon, has conducted an overhaul of the audio systems used throughout its venues, based around Allen & Heath's compact rackmount Qu-Pac mixer. Upgrading the clubs to the Qu-Pac mixers and converting to in-ear monitoring systems has brought the venues "improved clarity of sound and reduced stage volume.”

LAS VEGAS -  Stage Tec is presenting its new mixing console, Avatus, at the NAB Show inn Las Vegas. The new mixing console is a fully IP-based large mixing console with 21" multi-touch displays. Control elements and interfaces are connected through standard Ethernet. The console control surface and other elements communicate via IP networks, enabling remote production. The mixing console interface can be split, as the displays can be relocated as required.

NEW YORK — On April 24, 2017, the Tony Awards announced that the categories of "Best Sound Design of a Play" and "Best Sound Design of a Musical," the two awards categories that were eliminated, starting with the 2015 ceremony, will be reinstated for the awards show in 2018, which honors shows staged during the 2017-2018 season. Sound professionals are hopeful that the 71st annual Tony Awards will be the last where these awards are missing from the ceremony. The 2017 show, to be hosted by Kevin Spacey, will be aired live from Radio City Music Hall on CBS on June 11, 2017.

Hebron’s technical director, says the previous digital mixer was complex to operate and had limited input capacity, and when combined with an older digital snake, it produced enough latency in the monitor feed to confuse the church’s praise musicians.
