Country Music Shines with Shure at the ACM Awards

LAS VEGAS —Shure microphones took the stage for a majority of the performances at the 2007 Academy of Country Music Awards. For the event, Randy Faustino was at the FOH mix position, and there were an array of Shure microphones onstage. Oregon Church Depends on Meyer Sound for Worship Ministry

MEDFORD, OR — Joy Christian Fellowship in Medford, Ore., announced that it is one of the first houses of worship to install Meyer Sound’s M’elodie ultracompact high-power curvilinear array loudspeaker. Music minister Jake Schmelzer chose the Meyer system because of his experiences at the Britt Festivals in nearby Jacksonville, for which George Relles Sound of Eugene, Ore., has provided a Meyer Sound rental system every summer since 1985. Red Bull Air Race Takes Wing with JBL Vertec

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL — Sound engineer Christopher Winter chose Loudness Sonorizacao of Sao Paulo, Brazil, to provide the sound reinforcement system for the April Red Bull Air Race in Rio de Janeiro’s Botafogo Bay, which drew one million spectators, making it the largest sports event in Brazilian history. The system included four towers of 16 Vertec VT4889 line array elements each (64 in total), powered by Crown I-Tech 8000 amplifiers. Walter Boho Passes Away at Age 83

Walter Boho, owner and operator for 45 years of Boho Electronics Labs in Hillside, passed away at home on Saturday, May 26. He also taught at United Radio & Television in Newark from 1945 to 1952. A decorated WWII vet, Boho served in the Army as a staff sergeant, where he earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for heroic achievement in action, owing to his deeds on April 5, 1945, near Wurzburg, Germany. MONTREAL — Originally built in the late 1920s, Montreal’s landmark Olympia Theatre recently underwent a renovation project and technical facilities update that simultaneously took the “grand dame” of the city’s theatre scene both back in time and squarely into the 21st century. Mathieu Guilbault, who serves as front-of-house mixer for the theatre and codesigned the new system coordinated with local sound and lighting provider Kloda Focus to supply the venue with a new PA system, which now benefits from a Soundcraft Vi6 digital live sound console feeding Crown-powered JBL Vertec arrays. NILES, IL— Sandy LaMantia, President and CEO of Shure Incorporated, today praised several legislators who are supporting H.R. 1320, The Interference Protection for Existing Television Band Devices Act of 2007. The bill, introduced by Representative Bobby L. Rush (D-IL), seeks to protect users of wireless microphone systems and other devices that transmit in the television band from harmful interference from new devices. Representatives Mark Steven Kirk (R-IL), Shelley Berkley (D-NV), Jim Cooper (D-TN), Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL) and Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) have pledged their support for the bill.

NASHVILLE, TN — A galaxy of Sennheiser and Neumann microphones and a TRUE Systems Precision 8 mic preamp system were on hand at the Memphis, Nashville, and Atlanta Sister Hazel shows for the band’s all-acoustic "The Hard Rock Park Road to Myrtle Beach Tour." Sister Hazel headlined a traveling exhibition of the Beatles' famed Magical Mystery Tour Bus in support of the future 140-acre Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The tour hit Hard Rock Cafés between New York and Atlanta before a finale at the Myrtle Beach site.

Martin Audio MA Series Power Amps

The three new Martin Audio MA Series models -- MA18K, MA12K and MA9.6K -- are designed to use Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology to achieve higher efficiency. Martin says these amps can deliver 95% of the input power into the speakers, with a 5% loss dissipated as heat. They are reduced in size and weight and also contain patented design features to control parameters such as distortion, frequency response, slew rate, damping factor and bandwidth. The amps use switch-mode power supplies and power factor correction to maintain a steady current draw on the mains supply. Read More...

DALLAS —The latest addition to the successful House of Blues brand opened in Dallas on May 8 with an inaugural performance by Dallas native, Erykah Badu. The new venue includes a 1,625-capacity music hall, a 400-seat restaurant, special events facilities, a company store and a Foundation Room consisting of a private lounge and fine dining area for members. The sound system features the latest XLC DVX line arrays from Electro-Voice, along with a full compliment of EV P and CP series amplifiers, Midas mixing consoles and Klark Teknik Square One signal processing.

REDDITCH, ENGLAND — The three days of the Give It A Name indoor shows in late April are seen as the start of the U.K. festival season, as up-and-coming new alt-rock bands rotate through three venues in England and Scotland. With up to 12 acts a day going through each stage of the early spring festival, this was a great opportunity for an army of different front-of-house engineers to get their hands on the NEXO GEO T line array, running the newly launched NXStream management software.

Meyer Sound MILO Keeps the Beat at Ultra Music Festival

MIAMI — The Ultra Music Festival, an outdoor electronic music event, was held this year at Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami, Fla., and attracted 50,000 fans from around the world. Over the two-day period, the nine outdoor stages featured performances by The Cure, Carl Cox, Fatboy Slim, Paul Van Dyk, and Tiesto, among others.

Pooch Van Druten Rocks it with Linkin Park and Adamson

BERLIN — On April 29, Linkin Park gave a Berlin audience a preview of its upcoming European and North American tours. For the preview, Kenneth “Pooch” Van Druten, Linkin Park’s FOH engineer, used Adamson Y-18s and T-21 Subs, with various Adamson Yaxis partners providing the required systems for the European dates. Jochen Sommer of Adamson assisted with the final system design, which featured eight Y10s and two T-21 Subs per side to cover the main floor plus a rear balcony measuring 9.85’ in height and 6.5’ in depth. The system was ground-stacked on 2.6’-high stage platforms. The stage right balcony, serving as the V.I.P. area, added 4’ more, so two conventional 15-1/2" GAE speakers were used to cover the area.
